*2 Movies Worth Seeing

There are 2 movies that I have seen recently that I would recommend highly. These movies encompass the much needed change we need right now on the planet. They are both informative, empowering and uplifting. One is called: "Dirt" and the other "I Am". More details can be found below:

DIRT! the Movie--narrated by Jaime Lee Curtis--brings to life the environmental, economic, social and political impact that the soil has. It shares the stories of experts from all over the world who study and are able to harness the beauty and power of a respectful and mutually beneficial relationship with soil.

I AM is an utterly engaging and entertaining non-fiction film that poses two practical and provocative questions: what's wrong with our world, and what can we do to make it better? The filmmaker behind the inquiry is Tom Shadyac, one of Hollywood's leading comedy practitioners and the creative force behind such blockbusters as "Ace Ventura," "Liar Liar," "The Nutty Professor," and "Bruce Almighty." However, in I AM, Shadyac steps in front of the camera to recount what happened to him after a cycling accident left him incapacitated, possibly for good. Though he ultimately recovered, he emerged with a new sense of purpose, determined to share his own awakening to his prior life of excess and greed, and to investigate how he as an individual, and we as a race, could improve the way we live and walk in the world.

*Good Raw Food Recipes

apple fruit

Classic Garden Soup:

Ingredients: 1/2-1lb of mixed greens, 5 tomatoes (1lb), 1cucumber, 1/4 cup of sundried tomatoes

1 sprig of basil or other herbs to taste

Directions: Dice 1/2 tomato and all of the cucumber, mix with the greens, blend and combine the remaining ingredients and serve.

Sweet Fondue

Ingredients: 1 banana, 1 pear, 1 persimmon, 1 sweet apple, 3 stalks of celery, 4 dates, 4 dried figs

Directions: Soak dates and figs in separate containers with just enough water to cover them for approx 1-4hrs. Slice all celery and sweet fruits (can use any sweet fruits for this dish) and place on a tray. Blend figs with water adn dates with water separately into a thick dripping consistency, and place each in it's own bowl. Use a fondue stick or fork (or your fingers) and have fun dipping in the sweet fondue!

Note: Any dried fruit can be used to make different fondues. Try adding some cinnamon to raisins, or carob to dates and/or dried cherries for a different treat. Kids love tis one!

*Q & A with Dr. SAM

Dr. SAM-new bio pic

Question: I.J. asks: "I'm trying to learn more about the safety of cosmetics. Do you have any good resources?"

Answer: Yes, so glad you wrote in on this topic. It's amazing how many skin care and cosmetic products contain harsh chemicals and things you probably don't want to be putting on your body. Here are 2 good resources to get you started:

1. Skin Deep Cosmetic Database: details here>>> skin deep

2. Safe Cosmetics Org: details here>>> safe cosmetics

Thanks for your question.
